What’s causing my shoulder blade pain?
Pain in the shoulder blade region is reasonably common.
The pain may be located:
- in the central spine over the bones
- over the right or left shoulder blade area (or both).
- Over a rib, or pain radiating around the ribs.
- May occur with breathing in or breathing out
- Pain above the shoulder blade
- Pain behind the shoulder.
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Slumped posture.
- Pain around the ribs.
The region of the spine involved is called the thoracic spine, and therefore this type of pain is often called thoracic pain.
Causes of thoracic pain
There are many possible reasons or diagnosis’ for thoracic pain:
- Subluxation
- Muscle strain
- Muscle overuse
- Costeochondritis
- Thoracic disc herniation
- Rib dysfunction
- Rib Fracture
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Postural strain.
- T4 syndrome
- Intercostal strain.
- Intercostal neuralgia
For those presenting with shoulder blade or thoracic pain at our practice, we will perform a thorough history/examination, and analyse you for subluxation , using the Gonstead system . A Chiropractor’s role , is to correct subluxation so that you can function at your best.
