What does Chiropractic “treat”?
The short answer is \”nothing\”! Read on for clarification…..
Current advertising regulations state that any health practitioner can only advertise they can treat conditions where there is very high level scientific evidence of support.
These conditions in the Chiropractic context are
- Low back pain.
- Acute neck pain
- Chronic neck pain
- Acute whiplash-associated disorders
- Migraine headache
- Cervicogenic headache
- Shoulder girdle pain/dysfunction
- Hip Osteoarthritis
- Knee Osteoarthritis
- Patellofemoral syndrome
The truth is that Chiropractic doesn\’t claim to \”treat\” ANYTHING.
That sounds a bit confusing, but when we look closely at some definitions is becomes a bit clearer…
\”Treatment/to treat\” – to care for or deal with medically or surgically.
Example – treat a disease (Merriam/Webster 2019). Chiropractic\’s goal has never been to apply an outside in solution, or to provide a medical approach to any specific condition.
Rather, Chiropractic\’s goal is to restore normal function, so the body can better express its inner ability to work properly.
This is done through an adjustment….
Adjust—(Webster)—To make exact; to fit; to make correspondent or comfortable; to bring into proper relation.
So remember that fundamentally you are a living being who can self regulate, heal and function. Our role is simply to facilitate your ability to tap into this wonderful potential.
