What causes Subluxation?
What causes subluxation?
Subluxation is a condition where a joint has lost it’s normal movement, and there is effects on the nervous system in some way.
This can affect function, and cause symptoms or conditions to develop.
It is a Chiropractor’s role to detect and correct subluxation.
By correcting Subluxation we allow the nervous system to function better.
A super common question we get every day in practice is – “what causes my Subluxations?”.
What causes Subluxations – the 3 T’s.
There are three main categories of stressors that can cause Subluxation.
We call these the “3 T’s”.
The 3 T’s are – Trauma, Toxins, Thoughts.
Trauma
With trauma we are referring to physical stressors.
Macro-trauma – these are obvious big physical injuries or events such as:
- car accidents
- falls
- bumps
- learning to walk (falls).
Micro-trauma – these are the everyday bad habits or stressors that we have.
Micro-stressors are VERY COMMON.
- Work stressors
- Sleep position
- Posture at our desk
- Slumping on the couch
- Our lifting techniques at home or at work
- The way we get out of bed
- Our work ergonomics (work set-up)
- Lifting our children.
- Posture at school desks/or when studying.
- Incorrect pillow size
Toxins.
We can subluxate in response to chemical stressors, or the ingestion of foods which we react too. This area includes food intolerances and/or allergies. A common example here is babies who are sensitive to dairy protein (or some other protein).
Common drugs such as caffeine may cause the body to subluxate. Sometimes these reactions depend on sensitives we have in the body.
“Thoughts”.
Generally speaking this refers to “mental stress.”
When our mental state is stressed we can experience more body tension, and this can manifest as Subluxation.
The way we think also creates our behavioural patterns in how well we care for our body.
Reduce your stressors where possible.
Life is stressful in general.
Where possible, minimize the stressors on your body by moving well, eating well and thinking well.
